The African Forum and Network on Debt and Development (AFRODAD) is a Pan-African Civil Society Organisation committed to influencing policy change on public debt management, development finance, and economic governance.
Operating in 16 African countries and engaging with 3 regional economic blocs, AFRODAD is a thought leader in advocating for transparent, accountable, and rights-based public finance systems that serve African citizens.
AFRODAD’s mission is rooted in promoting responsible borrowing, economic sovereignty, and sustainable development that centers African voices and public participation.
The AFRODAD Internship is a 6-month program designed for young African professionals eager to gain real-world experience in regional policy research, advocacy, public finance reform, and civil society engagement.

Requirements/ Eligibility Criteria
If you’re a young African professional seeking a career in policy, economics, governance, or civil society work — this internship is for you.
Here are the key eligibility requirements:
1. Age & Citizenship
- Open to young African citizens, typically aged between 20 and 35 years.
- Must be residing in Africa at the time of application.
2. Educational Background
Applicants must have a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent qualification in a relevant field such as:
- Economics
- Political Science
- International Relations
- Communications
- Finance
- Public Administration
- Law
- Development Studies
- Monitoring & Evaluation
3. Skills & Competence:
- Demonstrated interest in public policy, economic development, or advocacy.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and remotely, especially for those not based near AFRODAD offices.
- Strong interpersonal skills and a commitment to Pan-African ideals.
4. Availability: Must be available for the full 6-month internship period (exact start dates to be confirmed post-selection).
Duration & stipend
- Duration: 6 months (full-time commitment expected).
- Start Date: Early 2026 (TBD upon selection).
- Working Arrangement: In-person internships available in Harare, Zimbabwe, or Yaoundé, Cameroon.
Remote internships available for applicants from other African countries. A modest stipend may be provided to support interns, subject to availability of funding and location-specific arrangements
Location
Interns located in countries with an AFRODAD office, such as Harare, Zimbabwe, or Yaoundé, Cameroon, will report to the office full-time. Remote working arrangements will be made for Interns in other countries.
