Applications are now open for the 2026–2027 Erasmus Mundus TROPIMUNDO Master Scholarship, one of Europe’s most prestigious fully funded postgraduate opportunities for students passionate about tropical biodiversity, ecosystems, and environmental conservation.
Coordinated by the Université libre de Bruxelles (ULB) and funded by the European Commission and VLIR-UOS ICP-Connect, this world-class two-year programme allows students to study in top European universities and conduct fieldwork in global biodiversity hotspots like the Amazon Rainforest, Central African forests, Madagascar, the Caribbean, Asian mangroves, and more.
TROPIMUNDO is a two-year Erasmus Mundus Joint Master Degree (EMJMD) programme awarding 120 ECTS credits. It offers a unique blend of multidisciplinary coursework, tropical field experience, and international collaboration between universities in Europe and partner institutions in Africa, Asia, Latin America, and the Caribbean.
The programme structure:
- Semester 1: Foundational and specialized ecological studies in Europe (Belgium, France, or Italy).
- Semester 2: Tropical field schools in biodiversity hotspots across continents.
- Semester 3: Advanced specialization at European partner institutions.
- Semester 4: Independent Master’s thesis based on tropical biodiversity, ecology, or ecosystem management.

Requirements/ Eligibility Criteria
The TROPIMUNDO programme is open to students from all academic and geographic backgroundswho have:
- A Bachelor’s degree (minimum 180 ECTS or equivalent) in biology, natural sciences, environmental sciences, or a closely related field.
- Demonstrated academic excellence and strong motivation for interdisciplinary environmental research.
- Proficiency in English (and/or French depending on the partner institution requirements).
- Relevant academic, professional, or research experience in ecosystem studies, biodiversity, or conservation is an asset.
Selection is highly competitive and based on merit, motivation, recommendation letters, and demonstrated alignment with the programme’s goals.
