The United Nations Institute for Disarmament Research (UNIDIR), in partnership with the Centre for International Governance Innovation (CIGI), has officially announced the 2025 Outer Space Security Conference Youth Video Competition. This is a life-changing, global opportunity aimed at amplifying youth voices on the future of space governance. The theme is nothing short of visionary: “It’s the year 2050. You are working on outer space security—what challenge are you facing, and how are you responding?”
This is your chance to envision a bold future, create a powerful 1–3 minute video, and get the opportunity to present your work live in Geneva, Switzerland, during the prestigious Outer Space Security Conference 2025 (OS25) scheduled for 9–10 September 2025.
The initiative challenges young minds to imagine the world three decades ahead. Whether you’re roleplaying as a space diplomat, a satellite regulator, an AI engineer managing orbital traffic, or a strategist countering space-related cyber threats—UNIDIR invites you to tell your story, propose solutions, and create an impactful visual experience. Selected winners will be invited to Geneva on a fully funded trip, where their videos will be screened, and they’ll give a lightning talk presentation in front of high-profile diplomats, policy experts, and scientists.
This competition is not just about video-making. It’s about being heard at the global level, influencing policy, and participating in multilateral disarmament discourse. If you’re a young person passionate about the peaceful and sustainable use of outer space, this is your moment to shine.
Beyond showcasing your creativity, selected winners will have their videos promoted on UNIDIR’s communication platforms and may be invited to co-author a published commentary expanding on their video concept. This is an incredible platform to demonstrate leadership, innovation, and critical thinking on the global stage—and it’s absolutely free to enter.
If you’ve ever dreamed of playing a role in diplomatic decision-making, contributing to space disarmament policy, or engaging in next-level international collaboration, this competition is your fast-track to that reality.
You’ll gain exclusive access to one of the world’s most respected UN-affiliated platforms, and your work will be placed at the heart of serious discussions surrounding outer space and its peaceful use. You’ll get to experience Geneva—the global hub of diplomacy—not as a tourist, but as an invited thought leader shaping the future.
Whether you’re a filmmaker, engineer, policy student, or space enthusiast, this is a risk-free, powerful opportunity to make your voice heard. And the best part? There are zero fees to apply—no cost, no gimmicks, just vision and value.
