The LIRA Fellowship is a full-time, in-person program hosted by the Afya na Haki (Ahaki) Institute, a leading Pan-African organization that bridges health and human rights through evidence-based research, strategic litigation, and capacity building.
The fellowship aims to nurture and support the next generation of African thought leaders, lawyers, researchers, and advocates working to advance reproductive justice. It focuses on capacity enhancement in research, strategic litigation, and policy advocacy in Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR).

Selected fellows will engage in intensive, immersive work with seasoned African practitioners, activists, and academics in the SRHR space. You will gain hands-on experience, contribute to transformative projects, and build your own profile as an expert in this critical field.

Requirements/Eligibility Criteria

To be considered for the Ahaki Africa Fellowship 2026, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Hold a Master’s Degree in a relevant discipline such as:
    • Law
    • Public Health
    • Gender Studies
    • Social Sciences
    • Human Rights
  • Demonstrated Experience in SRHR: You must have previous experience in at least one of the following:
    • Research related to SRHR
    • Strategic litigation in health or rights issues
    • Capacity enhancement or training initiatives in SRHR
  • Project Management Skills: While not mandatory, having experience in project planning, execution, or monitoring will be a significant advantage.
  • Language Proficiency:
    • Fluency in English is required.
    • Proficiency in French is highly desirable and strongly encouraged due to the fellowship’s regional (Anglophone and Francophone Africa) scope.
  • Commitment to Full-Time, In-Person Engagement: The fellowship requires physical presence and full-time availability at the Ahaki Institute for the entire duration.

Duration & Stipend


The LIRA Fellowship will run from January 2026, with a flexible duration of 6 to 12 months, depending on the fellow’s specific engagement plan and focus area.
